Ma Siliang
siliangma@gmail.com

is a multidisciplinary artist, working across photography, moving image, computational imaging and spatial installation. His practice examines the relationship between technology, image-making and perception, exploring how technical systems organise visibility and shape what becomes recognisable, interpretable and credible.

Working with photographic surfaces, algorithmic processes, virtual environments and recorded signals, Ma constructs situations in which images are continually translated between physical experience and computational representation. Cameras, software and measurement protocols become active participants in this process, directing attention, producing categories and establishing the conditions through which images acquire authority. His work follows the tensions between human agency and machine operations, attending to the errors, ambiguities and unexpected behaviours that emerge when technical systems encounter bodies and natural phenomena.

His recent projects extend these questions into data collection, speculative measurement and the archive. Bodily signals and acts of observation are transformed into altered images, indices and documents, making visible the procedures through which uncertain experience takes on the appearance of evidence. Across these works, the artist moves between the roles of author, operator, subject and archivist, examining his own position within the systems he constructs.

Ma Siliang holds a BA in Fashion Photography from the University of the Arts London (2007) and an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art (2018). He currently lives and works in Beijing.
