After each action, the performer enters a sequence labelled “DAMAGE ASSESSMENT.” As he turns against a plain background, marks on his clothing are presented for inspection and annotation. The body moves from a designated target to an examined subject; the event becomes a record. Borrowing its title from ballistics, the work asks how error is defined and accommodated within a system. Images, assessments and stained garments offer different accounts of the same encounter, examining how the language of precision makes violence appear measurable. The garments retain material traces of the staged actions.
